Let me start by introducing myself I am Dr Paul Harris acting medical director of Women’s MedicalCenter of NW Houston. I or a physician who works for me will be performing your abortion procedure. The new Texas law known as House Bill 15 requires me the physician to give you certain information regarding abortion procedures and the risk associated with having one. They also want me to let you know there are also risk involved in carrying a pregnancy to full term. To help relay this information to you I have made this recording .
There are risk involved with a abortion procedure as with any type of surgery . The risks are as follows:
§ Cramping of the uterus or pelvic pain
§ A hole in the uterus ( uterine perforation ) or other damage to the uterus .
§ Injury to the bowel or the bladder
§ A cut or torn cervix ( cervical laceration)
§ Incomplete removal of products of conception
§ Infection
§ Complication from anesthesia such as respiratory problems, nausea , headaches ,or drug reactions.
§ Inability to get pregnant due to infection or complication from an operation.
§ A possible hysterectomy as a result of complication or injury during the procedure.
§ Hemorrhage( heavy bleeding)
§ Emergency treatment for any of the following problems ,including possible need to treat with a operation , medicines or a blood transfusion .
§ Rarely death
There are also risk involved in a full term delivery and they are as follows:

The TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH has supplied me with information regarding the link between abortion and breast cancer. It is stated that you have greater chance of contraction breast cancer if you do not complete your pregnancy. The AMERICAN BOARD OF OBGYN and the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY disagree with this information there are studies that show there is no over all risk between abortion and breast cancer.
